Understanding Groups – Creating a Connection that Empowers
In this course we will focus on how to encourage, empower and engage parents in group or one-to-one situations. We will discuss the ins and outs of group facilitation and provide you with an opportunity to practice in a safe environment. We will discuss resistant clients as well as compassion fatigue and how you can look after yourself in the caring role. When you finish this course you will be aware of the importance of self-care, have skills for facilitating groups and have tools for dealing with challenging situations.
*This course can be tailored specifically to the situations faced by a certain group (teachers, daycare workers, social workers, etc). It helps participants understand how to recognize the parents “driving force”, how to motivate parents to work with them and how they can communicate to avoid setting off the parent “bomb”. Self-care, group facilitation and resistance are covered, but adapted to fit the group in question.
This course can be taken on its own or as course #5 of a five-part training, that when completed (along with internship) results in an Empowering NRG Parent Educator Certificate
