“Working with Debbie Pokornik is like receiving a breath of fresh air when life seems overwhelming. Her wisdom and guidance is invaluable in learning how to live a happier calmer life.  I’ve had the pleasure of attending Debbie’s professional development program [Connecting with the Inner Goddess], listening to Parenting Teleseminars, reading her book Break Free of Parenting Pressures and having some 1-1 parenting consulting sessions.  Each experience with Debbie was a great investment of my time and money. Not only did she give me hope that I can handle all of life and family issues with confidence and less stress, she also gave me practical guidance and techniques to show me how.

Debbie has an engaging and down-to-earth presentation style and she uses real life examples that are easy to relate to and benefit from. I highly recommend working with Debbie and/or reading her books and articles to help you be the best person you can be, and to handle life and family issues in a more relaxing and peaceful manner.”

“Debbie’s abundant knowledge and capacity is balanced with a sharp, intuitive, yet practical insight into how theory meets real life in schools, classrooms and homes. This common sense intellect is a rare gift and one of many hallmarks in Debbie’s success.”

“Debbie’s sessions are very informative [Lunch'n Learn]. I attended as an organizer (not a parent) and the information was still applicable for me. Debbie is very approachable and able to answer any questions our group had. The sessions were very much appreciated by all who attended.“

“I have found the book [Break Free of Parenting Pressures] to have a very reader friendly format and a wonderfully non-judgmental personality to it that seems to flow from the various personal anecdotes which casually provide insights to the day to day challenges we all face.  While the book’s title suggests the focus is to allow one to “break free of parenting pressures”, the universality of the examples and insights provided within, could just as easily be applied to one “breaking free of life’s pressures.”  Thank you for the obviously great effort that you have put into writing the book, all your work is readily evident on reading it.”

“I really enjoyed your book [Break Free of Parenting Pressures]. Not just because you gave me helpful, simple ideas, but because you really emphasize trusting your inner guidance.  It’s a book that can really compliment any parenting style. Anything that can strengthen a person’s trust in their own feelings is truly a gift to society.”

[Understanding Self-Regulation in the Early Years]

“Debbie carefully planned this workshop so that there was a balance of information given and activities to emphasize/illustrate the points in self-regulation.  Teachers were engaged throughout the afternoon and walked away with quite a few activities to practice self-regulation with their students.  She also provided resources for teachers to go to and find more information.  Debbie has a dynamic style and pointed delivery.  She’s very aware of the needs of the adult learner.”

“I really enjoyed the activity where we got to design a room. It helped to open my mind to some of the things that may alert, relax, energize, etc., students. The presentation encouraged me to look further into the sensory needs of my students and adapt my classroom accordingly.”

“The information in the presentation was AWESOME. The information was really useful especially when dealing with our schools population. The info would have been really useful last year, so please keep on informing teachers (newbies) about ways to help regulate and to teach self-regulation to help our students.”

“Good presentation – I liked the clear explanation of self-regulation and examples of simple games and activities to help create the “paths” in the brain. I especially liked the freeze ‘pose’ and all the variations that could be used. Good to be reminded of all the senses.  Nice mix of listening, speaking, sharing and movement in the afternoon.”

“I have watched Dr. Shanker present. Today I appreciated the modeling, hands on activities and suggestions for promoting self-regulation. Today my understanding about self-regulation moved from what it is (the research) to how; strategies for developing self-regulation in my classroom with my students and as a parent with my children.”

”[Connecting with the Inner Goddess] was an excellent blend of info for me to use throughout all areas of my life.  The material was presented in a very understandable way and the reflections pieces/e-breaks and techniques were a very nice compliment to the material.  Debbie was excellent – helpful and flexible…to have the opportunity to explore my inner-self and how I can live on purpose has been the greatest gift.  Thank you Debbie – Thank you!”
